Chinese Theatre Works is very exciting to bring two of our brand new productions “Day Jobs, Opera Dreams” & “Chang-Er Flies to the Moon” to Flushing Library.
“Day Jobs, Opera Dreams” tells the moving stories of immigrant Peking Opera artists’ Westward journeys. Chinese-American opera artists’ tell of their journey to America through a blend of Peking Opera, make-up, costume, and storytelling. They speak of the bitterness and hope of immigrant life in New York, the tension between the day jobs that feed them and the traditional art they have studied from childhood, which they now struggle to carry forward.
“Chang-Er Flies to the Moon” recounts the timeless legend of the Chinese Moon goddess
and her husband, the archer/hero Ho Yi. Chinese Theatre Works’ adaptation of this ancient tale of supernatural love caught up in conflict with Heaven and Earth uses overhead projector shadow puppetry, with images and figures modeled on traditional Chinese shadow figures, with a dash of zany humor!
Please bring your family and friends to see us, we are sure that you will all enjoy these brand new shows!
P.S.: this great program is now also available to travel up and perform for you at your convenience. Please feel free to contact us if you are considering CTW as you program for this year!
